About

Simpler Life
After living in places in Germany, Vietnam, and Denmark I got wearied of the noise and stresses of the busy cities come with. When I met my girlfriend in 2019, we were both ready for a slower pace and moved to Norway at the start of 2020. A bit of homelessness and travel restrictions later, we found ourselves in a small cabin bordering a calm lake in the countryside of mid-Norway. That's when the joy of a simpler life surrounded by nature kicked in.
Less dependency on the farm
Now also searching for a more self-sustaining way of living, we bought a small farm in Fosen in May 2023. It wasn't our dream property in the countryside but a great place to start. Most "småbruk" (small holdings) in Norway have withered over the idle years and need much work to be usable again.
The 20.000 square meters of grazing land were in better shape than the barn, so our planting goals could start right away. In the first years, we built a greenhouse, removed old silos, dug a pond, planted hedgerows and fruit trees, and started the barn renovations.
Aligning with Nature
Our goal with the farm and living in the countryside is to keep the mortgage low, live simply, and be surrounded by nature while improving the land we own.
In modern agriculture, food isn't sourced particularly sustainably. Owning land having land to grow crops on, being able to hunt for game, and fishing in the close by lake is the first step to taking back control of where our food comes from.
Water and heat are mainly covered by our well and access to firewood so external bills come crashing down a little less.
But the best part of living in a small, rural community is the close connections you built having a more direct influence on your surrounding nature.
